It is frightful when we embark on new adventures, challenges, opportunities, and journeys. We take a leap of faith, make plans, commitments, set goals and expectations only to find we often end up far from where we intend to be. Yet if we stop and embrace the journey and see the destination as a blessing, not a mistake, then perhaps we can so much more appreciate what God may actually doing in our lives. But there is more to it…
Really as we pass through our time on this earth, one can’t really be sure where we will be, where life will take us, and what that road will lead to. Surely when we make destructive choices we must know they will always lead to despair. But what about the right choices we make? Shouldn’t they lead to happiness and joy? One would think that this is a naturally fair thing to occur, yet we know many times it does not. The reality is as we live on this earth we really don’t know what tomorrow holds for us. We can try as hard as we want but still can’t completely control our circumstances. We can eat well and exercise but still get cancer. We can be faithful, loving, and dedicated to our spouse and still have them commit adultery. We can gather education, experience, and wisdom, and still be unemployed. We can look both ways before crossing the street and still get hit by a car. We can raise our children properly, and still have them become drug addicts. At the end of the day we must realize we really have little control over our lives.
So what do we make of such a condition…Well there is one destination we can know. There is one thing we can control. There is one place we can count on. There is but ONE assurance we can rest on…For those who believe in Jesus Christ as BOTH Lord and Savior, and who seek to walk with Him through the unknown of this world, will find their ultimate destination with Him in heaven. In light of eternity, all of the unknown we face each and every day seems much paler by comparison. Our time on this earth is but a grain of sand in the beach of eternity.
My dear friends let us not put so much attention on trying to know our earthly destination, let us focus on the one destination that is known.
